Drive For Uber – How To Become A Driver In London?
First of all, you will need to create a partner account if you don’t have one already. If you haven’t attended an Uber Ignition course and all that stuff, you will need to create a partner account which later will be manually activated by an Uber employee. To do so, you have to register for an Uber Driver account.
Once you have the account and all the licenses you will need to book an induction session at the Uber office. There you will be thoroughly explained how the app works, what are the expected behaviour and work ethics and all that good stuff. Uber now has several different websites for new partners, and it can be very confusing if you are not a technical person. The new site to book your appointment can is here – Book an Uber Appointment.
You need to download the Uber’s Partner app to your iPhone or Android device. You can find them here – iPhone – Android.
You need to have the following documents when visiting the Uber office:
- Your Private Hire License from Transport Of London – both parts. You need the badge and the paper counterpart.
- Your UK driving license – valid and unexpired.
- Your share code from DVLA – they will need to check if you have any points on your license.
You don’t need a car yet to get activated on the Uber platform!
That’s it. You don’t need to bring any car documents, and you don’t need the car just yet. You can upload Uber papers and vehicle details and info on your own via the Uber dashboard – it is very easy to do so afterwards.
In case you are not too technically inclined, you can always bring all the papers back to the office and ask any of the hipsters there to take the necessary pictures. I wouldn’t bother, any phone from the last 4-5 years can take a good enough photo for them to approve you and activate your partner account.
To start driving, you will need the following papers for the car:
- Private Hire License for the vehicle used
- The V5 Logbook
- MOT Certificate
- Hire and reward Insurance
In case it is a rental car you will also need
- Insurance driver schedule
- Insurance vehicle schedule
- Lease agreement
- Permission letter
It usually takes a few hours for Uber’s people to approve your papers. They will have to manually inspect and approve each paper and make sure everything is nice and legit.
Once you go through the induction program, you will be activated on the Uber platform. That means that once your driver details and vehicle papers and all checked out, you can get on the road!!!
